By applicant volume it's one of the largest exams tracked on this site.

None of these lead to a small competitive tier of "top" institutes the way every other field on this page does - they're lateral-entry routes into large, geographically spread, fully residential school networks instead, filling seats that open up after a school's normal Class 6/9 intake.

  661 fully residential, CBSE-affiliated schools under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti - roughly one per district, free tuition, Class 6-12. Two lateral-entry points: Class 9 (for current Class 8 students) and Class 11 (for current Class 10 students)
