About IISER IAT

IAT is the entrance exam for the 5-year BS-MS dual degree (and some 4-year BS/B.Tech) programs at India's 7 IISERs (Pune, Kolkata, Mohali, Bhopal, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Berhampur) - the country's flagship pure-sciences research track, alongside NEST. Participation has grown sharply in recent years - from under 35,000 candidates in 2023-24 to over 1.86 lakh in 2026.

Exam pattern

Selection process

Seats are allotted directly by IAT rank and category - no separate counselling interview stage. Students choose their major after a common first year or two, depending on the specific IISER.
