https://jeeadv.ac.inJEE Advanced is the second-stage entrance exam that decides admission to the IITs - only the top scorers in JEE Main qualify to attempt it. It's the sole gateway to undergraduate programs at the 23 IITs, conducted each year by one of the IITs on a rotating basis.
Mode
Computer-based test (CBT)
Duration
3 hours per paper (Paper 1 and Paper 2, same day)
Sections
Unlike JEE Main, the exact question mix and marking scheme change year to year and are only confirmed in the paper's own printed instructions on exam day.
IIT seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling based on your JEE Advanced rank, category, and preferences - the same centralized process used for JEE Main-qualified NIT/IIIT seats, run jointly across both exams.
The minimum score needed to qualify, by category, over the last 3 years.
| Category | 2026 marks | 2025 marks | 2024 marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| General | 92/360 | 74/360 | 109/360 |
| EWS / OBC-NCL | 82/360 | 66/360 | 98/360 |
| SC / ST | 46/360 | 37/360 | 54/360 |
This is only the minimum to be ranked at all in the Common Rank List - the actual cutoff to get an IIT seat, via JoSAA, is far higher and depends on branch, category, and year.
