About JEE Main

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is India's national engineering entrance exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It's the qualifying exam for admission to the NITs, IIITs, and other centrally-funded technical institutes (via JoSAA counselling), and it also gates entry to JEE Advanced - the separate exam that decides admission to the IITs. It's held twice a year (January and April sessions); your better score across the two counts.

Selection process

JoSAA centralized counselling allocates NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats by JEE Main rank, category, and preference. Separately, your JEE Main rank must clear a cutoff to even sit for JEE Advanced, which is the exam that actually decides IIT admission.
