Official website
https://csirnet.nta.nic.inCSIR NET is the science counterpart to UGC NET - a twice-yearly (June and December) qualifying test for Assistant Professor eligibility and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), covering five science streams: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Earth/Atmospheric/Ocean/Planetary Sciences. Conducted by NTA on behalf of CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) and UGC jointly.
Mode
Computer-based test (CBT)
Duration
3 hours
Total marks
200
Sections
Negative marking and per-question marks vary by subject stream - e.g. Life Sciences deducts 25% per wrong answer across all three parts, while Mathematics has no negative marking in Part C at all.
Qualifying CSIR NET (Assistant Professor and/or JRF category) makes you eligible for JRF fellowship or Assistant Professor recruitment in your science subject at UGC-recognized institutions - not itself an admission or job offer; each institution runs its own hiring or PhD-admission process afterward.
The official notification for this cycle hasn’t been released yet, so there’s nothing to verify against - everything above is an estimate based on past years. Always confirm on the official website once it’s released.
